The European Quantum space

The European Quantum Space will showcase the innovation and development in Quantum Technologies that Europe is driving forward. Curated by ICFO, the space will show the latest advancements in this field, especially in quantum communication, sensing and computing.

The QT Club corner stage will feature talks by the exhibitors presenting their latest achievements and announcing new insights and products.

The space

The space will host the European Quantum Flagship, which made its official presentation at the MWC in 2019 and has since focused on mature innovative and disruptive technologies that can be transferred into market-ready products and services. It will also showcase the regional initiatives Quantum Valley Lower Saxony and the Quantum Internet Alliance, dedicated to creating synergies in their regions and building the future quantum internet in Europe.

Seven companies will be present at the space bringing their products and services to the telecommunication audience: LuxQuanta, Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, Quside, Q*Bird , Qnami, Terra Quantum and IDQ Europe.

The Quantum Computer

The model displays a typical superconducting quantum computer setup within a dilution refrigerator for achieving stable operation conditions at millikelvin temperatures. The structure illustrates the complex technology required to operate a quantum computer: from the cooling technology to the conduction and processing of microwave signals to the quantum computer chip, which carries out the quantum mechanical computations.

(This complexity poses a great technological challenge for ultra-low power electronics operating at cryogenic temperatures.)

What are the components of the quantum computer?

The mock-up seen in the stand is model of a quantum computer that can be found in laboratories all over Europe. In this particular case, the size is of the model is:

  • Height: 58 cm
  • Diameter: 25 cm
  • Weight: 11 kg

The quantum computer is hung from the ceiling because the chips inside need to be inserted into a cryostat.
